Social Widgets (Community-Driven)

Social widgets is a category of engagement widgets that enable platform users to share meaningful actions or events with the community. Unlike editorial or system-generated widgets, social ones are created and populated by users themselves, transforming individual actions into community experiences.

Depending on the widget type, other users can discover, discuss, or immediately interact with the shared content, helping communities exchange knowledge, build trust, and encourage participation. Some of these widgets also help to grow monetisation of the platform through cross-promo of the target actions.

Business Goals

  • Social widgets help platforms:
  • Increase user engagement through peer-to-peer interactions.
  • Encourage users to discover relevant products, games, events, or opportunities.
  • Build trust by exposing authentic user activity instead of promotional content.
  • Increase conversion and transaction volume through social proof.
  • Improve retention by making communities more valuable over time.
  • Create network effects where user activity naturally attracts additional participation.

Core Capabilities

Social widgets can:

  • publish user-generated activities within сommunity сhats;
  • allow users to choose which activities they want to share;
  • display rich contextual information about shared activities;
  • enable one-click actions (where supported);
  • protect sensitive information according to platform rules;
  • update dynamically as new activities become available.

How It Works

A user performs an eligible action on the partner platform, and then chooses whether to publish the activity, for example, in a community chat or comment section. Other users can view the widget and interact with it according to its capabilities: for example, participation in a poll, opening the linked content or repeating the action.

Integration

  • We integrate social widgets with the partner platform using APIs. Integration typically includes:
    providing activity data through the appropriate API;
  • configuring widget publication rules;
  • defining navigation behaviour (deep link, new window, or application callback);
  • configuring visual appearance using Watchers design tokens and themes;
  • tracking interactions for analytics.

Each Social Widget type defines its own API contract and required payload. Depending on the widget, partners can configure: eligible activity types; publication rules; visible data fields; privacy restrictions; widget appearance; localisation; navigation behaviour; publication timing.

Examples of widgets

Copy widget

Enables users to share transactional actions that other users can repeat with a single interaction. It is suitable for any platform where users perform paid actions: from e-commerce platforms to video games and VOD. When a user rents a film on your platform, let them show off their spendings with others.

Event sharing widget

Enables users to share platform events such as wins, achievements, or other supported activities, encouraging discovery and participation. The difference with a copy widget in the side initiating an action: here, the platform initiates the action, and users can demonstrate in a chat. For example, when users get the discount for the specific product for the platform, or if they found that they won in a game, they can send this event in a chat or comment section, and other users can open the same game or item on the platform.

User polls

Users can initiate the polls in a chat or comment section with no participation of the platform representatives. This helps users stay engaged on their own, which grows retention.

In-app feed

The habitual feed that we got used to seeing on social media, is an example of social widgets as well. Social feed can be integrated with any app where users have something to share and provide for them an impression that this app or website is also a social media where they can suspend more time.

Benefits

For platform owners

* Higher engagement
* Increased retention — users entertain themselves without admins or community managers. They feel they own the community and stay on the platform longer.
* Improved monetisation — higher transaction volume through social influence
* Stronger community trust — users see real actions from real people.
* Organic product discovery — since push notifications can annoy users, these widgets provide a natural representation of platform abilities.

For end users

* Share meaningful platform activities.
* Learn from other community members.
* Discover opportunities through trusted chatmates' activity.
* Join community experiences without leaving the platform.
